To anyone on regular medication, therapy or treatment I would highly recommend setting yourself a challenge or linking your own treatment compliance to other people. I have started a small fundraiser that aims to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis on the premise that I do all my treatment 100% for a month. I want to motivate myself and others while raising vital funds for the CF Trust. It’s been over a week since I set out on this personal mission and I can happily say that so far I have succeeded. I am amazed that in such a short space of time I feel so much better than I have been feeling which really pushes the point home that it is so so important. I’ve gone from coughing constantly all night long to less than half the amount! To be honest I’m quite shocked how 100% compliance is effecting me this time around, and I definitely feel more motivated to keep it up. I haven’t had my lung function checked since a few weeks after having Sierra, I was meant to have a clinic appointment and annual review a couple of weeks ago but couldn’t get up to Kings collage hospital in London so had to reschedule. Hopefully this will be a good thing and will give me a chance to get stronger prior to my end of Jan appointment. My ultimate achievement would be to stay out of hospital this year. I haven’t stayed out for that long before but maybe, just maybe I can this winter.
Winter time is a challenge for most with chronic illness and for someone with CF it’s difficult to avoid all the coughs and colds that inevitably go around at this time of year. I have an advantage this year in that I am on maternity leave and don’t have to be in an office where it’s more than likely someone has something at any given time. A cold doesn’t seem like a big deal to most but for me and others like me it could mean a chest infection or pneumonia which is a lot more lethal for someone with CF.
If you could donate to my cause, even a 1£/$ would mean the world:
